About Mythos Behavioral Health
Why are you called Mythos Behavioral Health?
Mythos comes from the Greek word meaning “story” or a set of stories relevant to or having a significant truth or meaning for a person or group. It’s a body of interconnected stories that can have recurrent themes. Here are Mythos, you are seen as more than just a diagnosis. You are an individualized person that has been shaped by your life experiences and your care should reflect this!
What services do you offer?
Medication management, individualized therapy, or a combination of both for clients aged 16 and over. I treat all types of diagnoses including Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, Insomnia, Schizophrenia, and ADHD.
How do I know if I am a good fit for your practice?
Not every provider is right for every person. In general, I work well with anyone who is committed to feeling better. I believe that building a genuine connection, understanding who you are and what is important to you, and having a clear therapeutic relationship is necessary for treatment. I do offer a free ten minute phone consultation to see if we are a good fit for one another.
What insurances do you accept?
At this time I am in network with Optum (which covers UHC, UMR, and many other United Health plans), Aetna, and Cigna.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Call 623-281-3652 to schedule an appointment. After getting preliminary information, I can usually get people scheduled for a first appointment within two weeks. If a phone call feels too overwhelming to you, I can also accept text messages via Spruce, a HIPAA compliant app. To reach me via spruce, download the app at https://spruce.care/mythosbehavioralhealth
What can I expect from my first appointment?
The first appointment usually lasts from an hour to an hour and a half. There is a lot of information about you that I want to gather to be able to provide the best care. I will ask about how you are doing now but also several questions about your history. This first appointment is really when I get to know you! From there, you and I will decide on a plan of treatment and frequency of visits.
Do you see patients in person?
At this time, I am only seeing patient via telemedicine. You do need to be in the state of Arizona for me to provide care for you.
How long will my follow up appointments be?
This varies from person to person depending on what we are working on. In general, follow up appointments are either 25 or 50 minutes long.
Do you prescribe stimulants?
Stimulants like Adderall or Ritalin can be appropriately utilized for the treatment of ADHD. It is the policy of my practice that use of stimulants comes after formal neuropsychological testing for ADHD. Additionally, I prescribe within FDA approved guidelines and I utilize the controlled substance data base prior to each appointment. If you are taking or seeking high doses of stimulants, Mythos is not a good fit for treatment.
Do you prescribe benzos?
Benzos can be appropriate for short term use of acute anxiety. Recent literature clearly shows the negative impact that ongoing use of benzos can have on overall wellbeing and cognition. If you are currently taking a benzo daily, I will work with you on a slow taper with the goal being discontinuation. The controlled substance database is reviewed before each appointment. If you are taking benzos and are not interested in tapering off, Mythos is not the best fit for your treatment.
